This year is an exceptional winter with good nectar and pollen sources. Our bees are in very good condition and this will enable our hives to expand rapidly when moved onto Canola.

During autumn in the southern hemisphere, typically honey production starts to taper off as the weather cools. However, early rains have brought the Menzies' Banksia into flower. The sandy coastal plains of Western Australia are the only place in the world where Banksia menziesii grow. Early rain bodes well for a bumper season of delicious Banksia honey!

Although we are still experiencing some hot days in Western Australia, we are mindful that autumn is just around the corner. The aim of autumn management is to ensure the bees remain strong and healthy during winter so they need to be disease free, healthy, and well-fed.

During the summer months in Western Australia, even the bees get hot! Ideally maintaining a hive temperature of 32 to 35 degrees celsius is where the bees like it. As well as harvesting honey at this time of year, we also ensure the bees have plenty of shade, ventilation and water.
